The Parliament Arts Organization is a nonprofit arts organization located in Downtown York, PA. The Parliament empowers artists with galleries, figure drawing classes, music events and more. The Parliament approached YRK Creative looking for assistance promoting their inaugural music festival, King Street Jam. The client had a very open mind as far as the design of the promotional material for the event, basically just something fun.
I took this opportunity to investigate how other major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, etc. promoted themselves. My major conclusion was bright, vibrant, and incorporating some sort of quirky illustration. This is where the king illustration was born. I also took the opportunity to create a custom logotype that fit the fun vibe the client was going for.
Once the main illustration was settled on, I developed the rest of the look of the poster, which included settling on a background design, typography, and colors. These decisions established the overall brand and would be used throughout the supporting materials.
Outside of posters and postcards, I also created lightpole banners, pedicab banners, stage banners, and the brand materials were used for t-shirts, paper fans, and various other printed materials. The festival also had a strong online presence, which required social media posts, and covers for the various social media platforms. An example of the cover for the pages was used at the top of this page.
